About Maddy
I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #128371) with a speciality in supporting eating disorder recovery.
I’m trained in Shame-informed treatment to treat disordered eating through somatic, self-compassion and mindfulness interventions.
I use a trauma informed lens to help clients confront the deeper issues that underlie restrictive, binge eating, or diet/binge behavior.
Here’s a hot take
Maybe we could love our bodies
When we have shredded abs and toned legs
Or when we’re so pregnant we can’t see our feet
When our waist curves in just right
Or when it doesn’t
When we’ve put on 10 pounds
Or lost 15
When we’re in one of those dressing rooms with fluorescent lights
Where we can see every ripple of cellulite
When we’re milky white
Or black as night
When we’re young and tight, fit and bright
Or old as the willow tree, with ancient saggy skin
A memory of what we once had been
When our bodies work for us
Propelling us through marathon runs and Pilates classes
And when we’ve broken our arms, sprained our ankles, thrown out our backs
In stillness and in motion
When we’ve been reduced to a body
When someone has tried to take it from us
Can we love our bodies naked?
And in every color of clothing
When we’re hungry
Because by the way, we get fucking hungry
Whenever blood reaches our brain
Whenever oxygen fills our lungs
Maybe we could love our bodies
